Random campaign idea based on taking over a lawless pirate-controlled island

Chapter 1: help the local community of peasants by taking out a low-level pirate thug that is extorting them

Chapter 2: train the town, seven samurai style, against the inevitable retaliation from the larger pirate gang

Chapter 3: take the fight to the leader and remove the gang from the island

Chapter 4: at the request of the citizens, who are unable to lead themselves effectively, become the new rulers of the island in wake of the power vacuum. Of course the different citizens want you to go in different ways. The priest wants you to ban alcohol which will make the island more productive but less happy, farmers fight over land and water rights, the druids want more trees, the loggers want more lumber, trade must be established… The land eventually finds a new order, whether chaotic or lawful

Chapter 5: a few seasons have passed and the island has become successful and now that the hard work is done the empire is interested in a land grab. Now it’s a choice of either join the empire (and either sell out or rule as governors) or repel them

Chapter 6: this whole time the island was actually the navel of a sleeping god and dramatically floats up into the sky and the world is overrun by demons until the island can be pushed back to the ground and be resealed

Chapter 7: dragons immediately attack, sensing an opportunity after the exhausting demon war to steal and add to their hoards all the amazing magic items the players have obviously collected by now

Chapter 8: space elves materialize in a magic box and tell the party they are destined to undertake a most excellent adventure across the multiverse

Chapter 9: after restoring the balance of the multiverse a timestorm appears from the temporal plane without warning and instantly sends the party back in time to a faraway world in the distant past where they wake up naked on a primitive beach. They befriend the local tribes and help them destroy an evil god by sealing it beneath the island, but the only way to ensure the seal holds is for the party to sacrifice all of their powers becoming regular 4 HP commoners. They go on to lead normal lives, having families with the locals, but their kids grow up feeling so entitled at having hero parents that gradually their descendants become the brutal pirate lords of the island, until…
